harry and katherine crowcroft at colchetser

My Mothers brother, Harry Crowcroft who unfortunately never met either me or my mother, died in Colchester Dec.1989. His wife Katherine May (nee Appleton) died the following August. He had been in the army for many years which probably the reason for settling in Colchester. Both originally from Yorkshire. I know that he had got to Captain in the Royal Army Service Corps. by 1946. I wonder if anyone has any ideas about searching the area for anything on them. I often wonder what he looked like and getting a photo has been an ambition for many years.
Any help appreciated.

PS. Is there still an army base etc at Colchester. ?
