My mother was born in a place called Wu Hu, near (relatively) Shanghai, of British parents. Is there a way that I can obtain information?
Her fathers occupation is a mystery to me at the moment. Her mother died in 1921 and is buried in Singapore. Is there any way of obtaining information on this?
All help and suggestions gratefully acknowledged in advance.

The indexes to consular registers of births 1849-1965 might be the best place to start. These can be searched on 1837online (pay-per-view). If you find the correct entry, you can order copies of certificates via the GRO.

A married woman's death certificate generally gives her husband's name and occupation, so if you can find the one for your grandmother, in the same way as Geoffers suggested above, that might help you too.
