Hello Maureen,
I had a look at the 1901 Census and found the following:
1901 England Census
Name Parent or Spouse Names Birth Year BirthPlace Relation Civil Parish County/Island
Charles Clarke Annie abt 1873 Shapwick, Dorset Head Shapwick Dorset
Annie Clarke Charles abt 1876 Child Okeford, Dorset Wife Shapwick Dorset
William Clarke Charles, Annie abt 1897 Child Okeford, Dorset Son Shapwick Dorset
Bessie Clarke Charles, Annie abt 1898 Shapwick, Dorset Daughter Shapwick Dorset
Bertram Clarke Charles, Annie abt 1900 Shapwick, Dorset Son Shapwick Dorset
Leonard Clarke abt 1871 Shapwick, Dorset Brother-in-law Shapwick Dorset
Thersia Lavery abt 1883 Child Okeford, Dorset Sister-in-law Shapwick Dorset
It looks like Charles & Leonard are brothers. These are also the names of two of the brothers listed above even though the date of birth is slightly out. They could be the same two families.

Hi Maureen,
My email address is alex<dot>nicole38 AT gmail<dot>com
If you send me your email address I will send you a powerpoint show that has my Clarke's layed out in a more traditional tree view. I find it easier to work with even
though the amount of data shown is less.

Hello!! Well I am a descendant of the Shapwick Clarkes...as you mentioned earlier there are a fair few Clarke's in Shapwick in the former half of the last century. My Great Grandparents were Charles Clarke and Annie Clarke, nee Savery. By a strange coincedence, Annie shares my birthday, and was born EXACTLY 100 years before me!!!
My grandfather was Cyril Frances Edward Clarke, brother to Bessie and I think also to Bertram, mentioned in another post.
I'm afraid I don't know much more about my Clarke Lineage in Shapwick as my Grandfather left the village and moved to Lyndhurst with his bride, Laura Seymour who was from Burton. This is where my father and his three sisters were born and raised.
I would love to know of any further information anyone is able to gain. I must confess that due to the coincedence of my date of birth and my great grandmothers, I have concentrated more on finding out about the Savery's!!
Oh, and on a previous post re the 1901 census, there was mention on a sister in law with the surname Lavery. This surname should be Savery. This lady was my great grandmothers sister who lived with her and my great grandfather. I have looked on other sites that have 'deciphered' the original text as being Lavery, but the handwriting must just have not been up to much on the original document, because her surname is defo Savery!!!!
