hi,

my grandfather, John Rowbotham nicknamed 'Jack' emigrated to new Zealand sometime around 1940 or maybe earlier. I know he came from Lincoln area. He settled in NZ, married Doreen and had 3 children, one of whom - John - is my father. He was a farmer most of his life. Any help would be appreciated as I have lived in London for some time now and would love to find some family. Sadly Jack died in 2003.

thanks,

Leigh

Hi Leigh

Welcome to the forum. :) The 1st step is to get a copy of your grandfather's birth & marriage certificates. I presume his NZ marriage certificate will give the name of his father. His birth certificate will give the name of both parents & include his mother's maiden name.
Rowbotham is not that common a name in Lincolnshire - only about 70 listed in the 1901 census. Unlike Lancashire which has nearly 400.
Any idea where in Lincolshire he came from?
