Hello All,

Can someone tell me where I can get hold of Baptism Records for St Leonards, Shoreditch? I'm looking for the period between 1790 - 1795.

Regards

Alex Nicole

Hello Alex

They're held at the Guildhall Library, Aldermanbury, London EC2P 2EJ, here's their web site:
http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation/leisure_heritage/libraries_archives_museums_galleries/city_london_libraries/guildhall_lib.htm

Good luck

Close.
Right operator (City of London web site), wrong building.

St Leonard, Shoreditch, registers are at the
London Metropolitan Archives (http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/corporation/family-research/)
not at the Guildhall Library.

Hello Myth

I bow to your superior knowledge, but I console myself that I'm not the only one with it wrong, I consulted the latest addition of Phillimore's Atlas! As I'm due to check them myself on my next visit to London are the films are available at both archives?

"I bow to your superior knowledge"

Don't - I'll bow to Mr Phillimore's superior knowledge!

St Leonard Shoreditch is wholly outside the City boundary, not a split one like St Andrew Holborn, where the registers are at the Guildhall but there are film copies at both.
I've used the films at the LMA so I "know" they are there, a quick check of the LMA online catalogue showed that my memory hadn't gone AWOL, and I couldn't think of any reason why the Guildhall Library would have them, but ...

I rang them.

"For some odd reason" (the chap I spoke to is as puzzled as I am as to why) the Guildhall Library *do* have the St Leonard Shoreditch registers - and film copies thereof.

So, you're OK at either. :)
