JennyJenny,

Do you have any census info on your family? There is an Edgar BARRETT who matches your grandfather's description in the 1881 and 1891 censuses. Mother's name is Eliza. Siblings names are Eva, Amy and Rose. Father's name is Henry in 1881 but Eliza is a widow by 1891.

In 1871, it appears that Henry is single and living with his mother Elizabeth and sister Mary Ann in Fonthill Gifford. In 1861, he is with mother, sister and an uncle. In 1851, he is with parents William and Elizabeth and a number of siblings as well as a cousin.

Let me know if you are interested in the details.

1861: RG9/1322 Folio 24 Page 4
1851: HO107/1849 Folio 348 Page 3

Trish

Dear Trish,

Thank you for the reply. I have all the information you said except for the 1851 census. I subscribe to Ancestry but it's not bringing any of my Barrett's up.

JennyJenny, for some reason Ancestry doesn't always give you the 1851 results when you do an overall general census search for a name.

Try going directly into the 1851 census site and plug in the reference details I gave you -- you should get a hit. I can't remember the specific listing for 1851 -- it may be that BARRETT has been spelled slightly differently.

Good luck,
Trish
