Does anyone know anything about this institution?

I have found James, 12 and Ernest 9, CUMMING as scholars there on the 1891 census.
It is recorded as the Kensington & Chelsea District.

It is probable that their father died before 1891 as he does not appear on that census, I have not yet found their mother or siblings, but the children are all back with their mother Lucy in Kensington by 1901.

See workhouses.org.uk

I assume that's what you must mean.

Records are at the LMA. In the catalogue, look under "Kensington Board of Guardians", keyword "Banstead".

Thanks Peter,

I am really dozy, I didn't think of looking on the Workhouse site!
By coincidence, I lived opposite Ravenscourt Park as a child, where Marlesford Lodge is mentioned as an 'annexe' though by that time, much later, it had become a remand home.

The Ewell School sounds a reasonable place, though it doesn't mention the criteria for admission.

Anyway, nice to have placed it. |wave|
