Cave family

Can anyone help me with my husband's Cave family. On 1901 census for Stonehouse Glos is family:Ada Cave b c 1878 Swindon, Wilts:Enoch E Cave bc1891, Moredon,Swindon Wilts: George F Cave bc 1876 Selsey Glos

If this correct Ada and George would only have been 13 and 15 on birth of Enoch!. cannot find eithrt their marriage or Enoch's birth on eirhter FreeBMD or 1837 online. Neither can I find the family on 1891 census.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Margaret

Hi Margaret,

I took a look at the image and the child's age is given as 10 months on the census page. The date of 1891 on the index must therefore be a transcription error, and the parents George and Ada are shown as a respectable 25 and 23!

Errors of this sort are not unusual in the census indexes and that's why it is always preferable to view the census image and not just the index. Having said that, written census details are sometimes incorrect/illegible/misread, but that's not the case here - Enoch is definitely shown as 10 mo not 10.

To avoid duplication of effort, please also see my replies to Margaret on the Gloucestershire (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10705)forum... I think I have located Enoch's birth record and his parents' marriage record -- as well as 1891 census info.

Marriage in 1898 of George Frances Cave to Ada Filor June qtr 1898 District Highworth.

Ada Filor was born in New Swindon aged 12 in 1891 census.
