I have just come across Charles Davies in the 1851 census. Aged 45. Living with his wife and family in Shrewsbury Street, Prees.

His occupation is: "Tailor, Baker and Farmer 36 acres employing 2 men 1 boy".

How on earth did he find the time?

And continuing the theme of 'time', he and his wife have nine children.

I know they didn't have television in those days but ............... well ............. blimey!:D

Hi Sharron,

36 acres is not a very large farm. Some farms are easier to manage than others. It is common for farmers throughout Ireland in this day and age to do some work on their farm before going to work in a town or a city. When they return home from that work they work on the farm in the evening. Their wives may do their bit to help on the farm too.

All the best Christopher
