Just popped up from Cornwall to ask a big favour :D Could someone take a look in the 1871 census for Thomas England born 1854 in Padstow, Cornwall. I have him there in 1881 by which time he was married to Catherine Carey and had a 7 year old daughter Alice.

I think there will be quite a few Cornish strays up there and I am interested in them all really so long as they come from my area. I would be grateful for any census sightings in 1851, 61 and 71 |bowdown|

Thanks a million for all these Trish. This is actually John Craddock according to the 1851 census when he was in Wadebridge in case anyone else is looking.

No I am looking for all strays from my area really as I am reconstructing all the families. Many of the ship carpenters spent years in Cardiff or Portsmouth or Plymouth. Sometimes their wives were left at home but mostly they either went with them or the single men came back with a wife from the area. A few years ago someone sent me all the strays but not the households for them. Now I am fishing for the ones that got away ;)

I do appreciate your help and can return the favour if you need someone from Cornwall.

...I do appreciate your help and can return the favour if you need someone from Cornwall.I might take you up on that when I get a chance... I have 19th century ancestors who flitted in and out of Cornwall -- which is, by the way, an awesome part of the world!

By the way, the 1861 census for Wales lists 102 people as born in Padstow, Cornwall and living in Wales, mostly Glamorgan. I'm sure there's more as I've noticed Padstow frequently mistranscribed as something else and a search wouldn't pick these up.

The 1871 census has 138 and the 1891, 188.

Too many to list for you, but if there's any names in particular, I can fish them out...
