The 1851 census index shows residing in Essex,

Rachel FENN born abt 1798

Can someone have a look for me please? if she was born in Harwich, then she is 'mine'. Up to this date there were some deaths on FreeBMD for a John FENN which was her husband's name, so she may be a widow.

Oh goody gumdrops, tis my Rachel - thanks Jo and Wirral - I'm just off to bed and thought I would have a quick look to see if anyone had done it already. Lovely, John is still alive and from Mistley. I'll see what my couple of 1841 and 1861 cds cover before I do anything else with them. And a grandson thrown in too.

many thanks
Christine ;)

If you have 1841 Essex CD I think you will find them at

HO107-0330 Folio 36 Page 19
Still in Romford, John a beer house keeper.
Good luck.

Sorry Wirral :)Thanks Jo (and Wirral) when you get time I would love the whole household? I have cds 10 & 13, and of course Romford isn't on them! nor my single 1861 cd which covers basically the same areas as the two 1841. (John FENN and Rachel RANDALL married in Harwich in 1817)

I used to live opposite and family named Fenn, in fact my brother used to friends with the son there. Oh by the way, it was in Essex although not from Romford, but not too far away.Beebee.

Thanks Jo, the Anderson may turn out relevant 'one day' since there was that grandchild surnamed Anderson.

Hi BeeBee, I do not know any of my cousins from this family line at all. But it can be a small world - who knows :D

Hi Christine.......So after all the Howe and Cole research, we are nearer to being related then?

See if this is any use to you......http://www.fenn.demon.co.uk/

Sarah Fenn was my 4x Gt Grandmother.

Hello again Al,

I've looked at that web page - clever interactive tree :) but I do not see any connection at the moment.

John Warner FENN is the son of Henry FENN and Hannah WARNER, who married at Mistley in 1788 (marriage and children's baptisms from the IGI)

Marriage, Saint Nicholas, Harwich
John FENN, Rachel RANDLE both single of this parish
married in the chapel by banns with the consent of parents.
9 Jan 1817, by Thos Scott, minister
[Rachel signed Rachel Randall, John gave his mark]
Witnesses: Joseph Rigley, Mary Benson (or Beason?)

Rachel is the youngest daughter of Thomas RANDALL and Susan ?. Born and baptized 1798 Saint Nicholas, Harwich (the first Rachel died, aged 9 years, in 1795)

thanking you,
Christine

Christine......Can I suggest you contact Colin Fenn who runs the site?

Sarah Fenn b1796 Ardleigh (virtually next to Mistley)......I know we shouldn't speculate, but then, if we didn't we may never get anywhere.......ie; we can't always confirm things when we don't know what the question is.

Colin has much more info than his tree shows....he has done tons of research.

Just an update on this 1851 entry... young John is Harriett's son. She is at her home in Great Ilford with a 2 month old baby and two older children. Husband Charles ANDERSON, a tailor - they married 1842. He was widowed, with all the children, in the 1861 census.
