Postlethwaite family.

Am struggling to find family of John Postlethwaite of stroud on 1891 census. have traced them 1851-81 and 1901 but cannot find on 1891 on Ancestry.John had died between 1871 and 81 leaving widow Eliza b 1833 Stroud(sometimes given as Rodborough or Bisley), son George b1861 stroud, daughter Alice E.E. b 1859 and daughter Bessey Amy b 1871. All living at The Leazes, Stroud.
In 1901 at Lower Leazes, Stroud-Eliza, George, son-in-law William Byer- his wife Bessie and their daughter Dovis(Doris).
Would be grateful if anyone can find them for me. Thanks Margaret

I hate to think of the mis-transcriptions when Ancestry does the 1841 - unless they are using Rod's CD images!

To be honest, all transcriptions depend on the experience and knowledge of the transcriber, don't they, although this is obviously helped by clarity of the images they are attempting to transcribe. In the above instance, it was pretty clear that the name was Postlewhaite and some of the recent transcriptions I have come across have been pretty way out even though the names were perfectly legible. That said, using Ancestry, I have still (with a certain amount of lateral thinking) found a lot of ancestors that were missing and it has been well worth the subscription to both myself and my husband. Hope that comment won't stir up a hornet's nest!!

Thanks to all replies to this thread. Wirral, yes these are part of my husband's family.
Janet-thanks for finding Eliza and family. Would not have thought of "Potteswhart" but feasible if they had broad Gloucestershire accent. I did find "Pestell" on Ancestry which could also be a variant
Personal knowledge certainly helps and I have sent many corrections into "1837"online through this.
