I am seeking information on the military career in the Dorset Regiment of my grandfather Harry Frazer, b.1866 in Brighton. When he married Eliza Hall at the age of 25 in Abbotsbury, Dorchester, in 1891 he was already a corporal. You didn't become a corporal overnight. When did he enlist? What was the minimum age for enlistment?
In 1892 he was a sergeant in Cairo (birth of son Harry) in the Ist Battalion - regimental number 717. In 1896 he was a sergeant in India (Bangalore) where my father Sidney was born.
Known medals: Indian General Service with clasps 1895-1898, Punjab Frontier 1897-1898 and 'Tiral 1897-1898. Source of information: Keep Military Museum, Dorchester.
In March 1899 he was a gymnastic instructor at a school in Brighton.
Where else did he serve? When was he discharged? Pension or no pension?
I'd be grateful for any help.
