Hi, l have hit a brick wall and wondered if anyone on the list could possibly help or advise?
My 2nd great-grandfather was George NASH, in September 1839 he joins the 61st regiment of foot in Salisbury and gives his age as seventeen and a half and his birth place as Codford,Wilts, however l cannot locate a baptism for George within a five mile radius of Codford.
In January 1860 George married Miriam Barter in Wylye parish church and states his father as James, james also appears as a witness.
George & Miriam name there first two children Diana Charity & Frederick James which leads me to believe that George is the son of a James & Charity Naish who married in Fisherton Delemere in 1808, James & Charity baptise several children between 1811 & 1817 there is then a gap to 1823 when they baptise a son Thomas in Romsey, Hampshire, they then baptise another child John in 1826 but this time in Stockton, Wilts.
I am presuming that George could have been baptised anywhere between Stockton & Romsey but the amount of parishes l would have to search is daunting and wondered if there were anyone on the list who could suggest another way of tackling this problem?
Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Robert
