Hello all,

I have found evidence to suggest that one of my ancestors was Sir Edwin Harris Dunning. The information I already had and the info I subsequently found regarding his birth date, spouse, parents and children match perfectly. The only details I have been able to find about him are in the Dictionary of South African Biography which says he was born in Ashton, Somerset, whereas my data tells me he was born in Bedminster, Bristol. He later purchased the Stoodleigh Estate in Devonshire, became mayor of Tiverton in 1900 and Conservative candidate for Tiverton in 1904.

I wondered if anyone has any knowledge of this man or knows of anywhere I can find out about him. He also had a son called Edwin who went on to become the first man to land a plane on the deck of a ship, unfortunately dying on his third attempt. Anything about this Edwin would interest me also.

Thank you very much,

Caroline
