I am desperately trying to find out more about the family of Mary Anne Bright, who was born on 4 April 1810, married Johannes Blatt on 9 Jun 1840, emigrated to Switzerland, where Johannes was from and where she died on 12 Jan 1875. Mary Anne's Father was a well known coachmen in Exeter, Exeter. Is there anybody who could help in ANY way?! Thanks. . .

I am desperately trying to find out more about the family of Mary Anne Bright... Mary Anne's Father was a well known coachmen in Exeter, Exeter...Dominique,

On the offchance that Mary Anne's father was still alive in 1851, I checked the census for men with the surname BRIGHT, born about 1770 to 1790, born and/or living in Devon, with the occupation of coachman. The only possible match I see is the following -- and it's not close:

Address: Stoke Damerel, Devonport, Devon [HO107/1881 Folio 219 Page 56]

Wm BRIGHT head M 71 Cartman [born] Devon Beaford
Mary do wife M 55 do Peter
Isaac CROOK lodger U 30 laborer do Devonport
Nathl HANCOCK lodger U 30 laborer do do
John HENNINGS lodger U 23 laborer do do
Saml ALLEN lodger U 25 Tailor do do

Unfortunately, William is a cartman, not a coachman, and living in Devonport, not Exeter. The one hit for Exeter is a John BRIGHT, 61, a "Chair Repairer" born in "Plyms" and living in "Exeter St. Mary Steps". [HO107/1869 Folio 389 Page 33]

I think it would help if you can tell us Mary Ann's fathers name?
If you have his occupation, you must know his name, surely?

How do you know he was a well known coachman?

I've checked the 1841 census in Exeter for all BRIGHT males who could possibly a brother or father to Mary Ann. She was born in 1810 & got married in 1840 at age 30 - roughly. Her father could have been 50 or older. None of the Bright men I found in Exeter were Coachmen. One occupation I couldn't read very well. Hope this helps BD
