Would like to contact anyone who is researching these surnames, especially from the Strensall area. John MANSELL married Jane COLLEY in Strensall and came to Canada in the early 1800's.

One of my great great aunts, Florence Susannah Bell, married a Ted Mansell. Flo was born in Hammersmith, London in 1878 - but after her marriage moved to the valleys of south Wales. I assume that is where Ted was from... but, so far, I haven't been able to find him on any of the censuses! And Mansell isn't a very common name...

Thanks so much for your reply. I doubt if our families are closely related because most of our Mansells are from North Yorkshire. I have heard of a branch in Wales, however. Check out Margam Castle, Wales. If that doesn't help, contact me again.

Our family lore tells that the Mansell family were split by the War of the Roses. The two sides distinguished themselves by using one "L" and the other two. Of course this is not documented.
Cheers from Canada, Sue Mansell
