My wife and I are having significant difficulty in tracing the surviving siblings of her Grandfather -Thomas Frederick Jones. He was the son of Daniel Jones and Annie Mainwaring who were married in Swansea in 1869 and in 1871 were living at 11 Carmarthen Road, Swansea.

The 1st child of Daniel and Annie was born in 1871 and died 2 years later. His name was David John Jones

The 1881 census has the family living at 119 High Street, Swansea. The children are:
David John born 1875 in Swansea - a 2nd son to be named as such
Daniel G. born 1877 in Swansea
William Mainwaring born 1879 in Swansea

The 1891 census has the family living at 7 Hall Street, Swansea. In addition to the boys above are:
Thomas Frederick born 1881 in Swansea
Evan E. born 1885 in Swansea

With the exception of Evan E, Jones we have their birth cert.s which confirms the parents and the occupation of the father as a Shiwright

In 1891, David John is enumerated as aged 16 [transcribed as 18] and emplored as a Rubber in a Tin Works and Daniel is 14 and an Errand Boy. The other 3 are in school.

Our problem is with the later activity of David John and Daniel G. and unfortunately we don't have time Daniel G.
We have been unable to find him in 1901 and 1911 census records. There is a possible death in Swansea 2nd q. 1936 with the right name and close proximity to his age. That's it for him!!

David John
In 1901 he shows up on the census as a widower, living with his parents and William, Thomas and Evan. His occupation is a labourer in the Docks in Swansea. The address is 35 Richardson Street, Swansea. With the family group is a 1 year old granddaughter [Elizabeth Jane] that we believe is his daughter, but we can find a trace of his marriage.

The 1911 census has Daniel [the father] now a widower, with William and William's spouse of 2 years, Elizabeth Jane [now age 11] and Charlotte, Annie's unmarried sister age 72. There is no sign of David John who, if alive would be about 36 years old.

We have the known deaths of Daniel's wife, Annie in the 4th q. 1905 and her sister Charlotte in the 2nd q. 1912 aged 73.

We have yet to find a possible match for the death of Annie's husband.

While this one fits from an age standpoint, so does 11a 954 Apr-Jun 1936 in Swansea at age 59. Just wish I had time get both cert.s

In the meantime, Adele, which one would you suggest we use?

When this was scanned and sent to me, the person had spilled liquid on it The birth date looks like October 16, but at the time I was more interested in confirming parentage rather than date of birth.

Given that he's not easily spotted in the 1901 or 1911 census, I'd favour this 1897 one if I was going to invest in a certificate.

Thanks, Adele, I'll use that for now so that Hillary has a more 'reasoned' explanation for it rather than the one from 1936
