I've had a look through the census for Elsfield and Wood Eaton, several Harris entries, but no Rose or Joseph. You don't mention where she married or where she was born, which might help to locate her.

Hi,

Seeing similarities with my Greatgrandmother here. She lied!! said she was 21 on her marriage cert when she was 16 but told the truth on the census. having said that my 3X Greatgrandfather changed his age on the census at the drop of a hat anything within 3 years of his true age.

Good luck.

Rose was born, according to 1881 census,in Dorchester, Oxfordshire.
On the 1871 was living in Magdalen Road. Unable to read place of birth. Married Richard Hewlett in 1866 in Sykehouse, Yorkshire.

Place of birth in 1871 given as Oxon Dry Sandford - although the county should actually be Berks, but close to the border.

I looked at 1861 indexes for Headington R.D. (several Joseph Harris entries), Wallingford (zilch) and Oxford City R.D. This last has a possible - Rosa Harris, 13, born Berks Dry Sandford. No father present. Head was Eliza Harris, married, Laundress, born Berkshire, Abingdon. Other family members Ellen (19) and Elizabeth (15), born Oxford and Marston respectively. RG9/895/6.
