Can you give us more information about her? From her name, it sounds as if she was French, and her husband as well. Have you found them on any England Censuses? If so, where does it say she was born?

There is no centralised system of BMDs in France as there is in England & Wales, so you need to know the exact place she was born to be able to get a copy of her birth certificate. Her birth will have been registered at the Town Hall of the town where she was born.

If you are lucky, there are margin notes on a birth certificate which give the date and place of the person's wedding and death. Otherwise, you have to hope that they got married in the same town that they were born in.

Apologies, harbourlady99, for using 'jargon'.

Thanks, Jan, for posting the link. I hadn't seen that before, so it was very useful for me too.

Can you give us more information about her?

Just to save re-inventing the wheel, I believe this thread (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48440) relates ;)
