Hamburg Passenger Lists, 1850-1934 on Ancestry (unfortunately I do not have Worldwide Membership yet).
Karl Grabbe
Birth: year
Departure: date - location
Arrival: Bremerhaven; Afrika

A copy of the original would be appreciated, as I think that he came over with his wife or future wife, Meta Klara Gertrude Sieberts. Maybe other family members too!

Should be around 1896-1905

Do you have an approximate year of birth to try and narrow it down a bit more?

I haven't found the others you mention. The index only goes up to 1913. If they sailed after that date, you would have to browse the images of the handwritten index instead.

Thank you that is definitely him as his one occupation was a Ship's Steward (verwalter).
I was hoping that Meta Klara Gertrude Sieberts was also on the ship but she must have followed him over within a year or so.
Alexander was in RSA in 1906.
Richard came over between 1915 & 1917, first daughter born in Berlin, Germany about 1915 and second daughter born 1917 in the Cape, South Africa.

Sorry, I can't find Alexander. And there appear to be no records in this series for 1915-1919.

Thank you Kerrywood, that gives me a precise residential location on which to expand my research.

I wonder if you would not mind doing two more look ups. Should be around the same time and also to East London, South Africa. I am battling as I have relatively little data to start with, a birth date or location would be a great starting point. I'm assuming both were from Germany.

Rando (Ancestry's transcription) looks a bit suspect
Extract from original image, together with the line above, in case it helps.

Yes, thanks once again. You have been a great help, especially concerning the birth dates. Any idea when the 1911 census will become available on Ancestry.com ?

I understand that FMP have an exclusive licence for 6 months from the date of release of the full contents (and we are not there yet). After that period, TNA may open it up to any provider who wants to bid for it. Anyone doing so will probably have to purchase the images and re-index them, so it could be a long wait :(

Richard Grabbe & wife Alice Grabbe
Arrived after 1910 as they were married in 1911 in Berlin
Richard Grabbe 1880-1933 (Russia/Latvia)
Alice Wilhelmina Grabbe nee Rühl (Sweden)

Trying to peg down Alice's birth date.
I see them both on Ancestry but under the full World Wide subscription, Hamburg Passenger List 1850-1934.

There should be a daughter traveling with them, Brunhilde Herta Emilie Grabbe (Berlin, Germany).

Hi Kerrywood
Quick question please.
How much did it cost you to look up Brad's post or is it part & parcel in your membership?
Whichever, it's very very kind of you.

Warmest regards
Georgie

Hi Kerrywood,
Is there any sign of a Gustave Vondervelden (also variants) or Wilhemina Vondervelden (not his wife, as she married a Peter Schmidt) and Elisabeth Kirschei? All 3 are definitely German and eventually got to England prior to 1868.
Would love a clue as to where they were before moving to England, as I've traced them fairly well afterwards.
At this stage I'm just looking in the haystack for the needle, but will be happy if I find a straw to clutch at in the process!

Thanks Kerrywood
That is a great help. I Had Alice pegged at 1885, but hope against all hope I had hoped that her place of birth would be listed. Sweden is very difficult to research unless you know the specific parish.
