I would appreciate some help deciphering an address on a 1862 marriage registration please. The wedding took place in the parish of Luss, and I have managed to work out the bride's residence. The groom worked and lived in Edinburgh: it looks like 47 Judie's Place, St Stephens. I looked at a map of the area near St Stephen's Church on the net, but no luck finding that street.
Thanks for your help.

There are still places in Edinburgh named for St Jude, so the address may be ST JUDE'S PLACE. Did you look at an older map? Try Peter Stubbs' amazing site http://www.edinphoto.org.uk/ but don't get lost in there :)
And/or could you send me the image? I may be able to help as I'm familiar with Edinburgh street names.

Thanks for the reply Mary. Yes, I did try old maps, but couldn't resolve my difficulty. The best fit was India Place, but the the writing really looks the same as the 'Ju' as in 'June', the month of the wedding, rather than the 'I' of 'Isabella', the bride's name.
While I would really appreciate you looking at the writing, I've had to take a really small piece to fit the upload limit - and am having a technical difficulty (ie the site says the file's too big, but the file properties says it's well within the limit) Will seek advice somewhere and write again
Thanks also for the URL - a wonderful site.

I think you're trying to upload your image into your B-G posting. The trick is to upload it to an external site, then put the link into your message.
