Have just received my long awaited CD of parish register transcripts, but am having problems interpreting some of the data.Could someone please tell me what the following mean::confused:
LIC
otp
botp
I assume a birth entry without the fathers name recorded would be illegitimate!|scold|

LIC Marriage by Licence as opposed to marriage by Banns
otp Of this parish (the person had an address in the parish when he/she married but did not necessarily come from that parish)
botp Both of this parish

No the omission of a father's name does not mean the birth was illegitimate. It simply means the father's name was not recorded.
