Hello,

Does anyone know how I might be able to trace my Grandfather's WW1 army history? I've got his number and know that he started his training in the Cheshire Regiment then went into the Labour Corp. He was discharged at the end of the war and didn't fight in WW2.

Many thanks,
Claire

www.nationalarchives.gov.uk. The documents online for medal cards, and catalogue search for records. Type in surname and years 1914 - 1921. You can purchase online the records if they fit with the info you have.

Hello Vanessa,

Thanks very much, I have got a copy of his medal card. I was wondering if there was any way I could find out where he was posted. My Great Uncle followed the same route and we know he went to Messapotamia.

If you search TNA catalogue it may show up. You have to download the records. Check also Army pensions. If you have A..co.uk there is also a military search engine. There is also www.gibraltargenealogy.com and maltafamilyhistory as well as http://www.world-war.co.uk/index.php3 to search by regiment.
