In my tree I have an Elizabeth Ellen OWEN 1894 - 1964 of Liverpool

Parents are

Catherine (1847 of Lanpenthen Anglesey)
Rowland Owens (1847 of Caemas Anglesey)

1901 England census finds the family at

Wellington Road - Toxteth

Rowland Owen - 54 - head
Catherine - 54 - wife
John W Owen - 19 - son
Elizabeth - 15 - daut.
Jone Hughes - 30 - ??
Hugh Donakey - 16 - lodger
William Cleary - 56 - lodger

then the 1891

Wellington Road - Toxteth

Rowland Owen
Catherine - 42
John W - 9
Elizabeth Ellen - 5
Samuel Beaton - 45 - visitor (Scotland)
Hugh Donakey - 6 - lodger (?)
Bell Glenville - 2 - visitor
Margaret Glenville - 42 - visitor (Wales)
Owen Parry - 17 - lodger
Elizabeth A Pritchard - 22 - Neice
Hugh Pritchard - 20 - lodger
Hugh Williams - 23 - lodger

They are harder to trace before that - but have narrowed them down.

But 1851 WALES

Rowland I think I may have found age 3 living in Llanbedrig - Grandfathers - Owen JONES (61)
Mother is Eleanor OWENS - also at property several children listed as being grandchildren.

No father figure apparent.

1841 WALES

Owen JONES age 50 living with Elizabeth JANES (60) and Elizabeth JONES (75)

Phew!! Its a hard slog - I think this is the same Owen JONES of 1851 WALES
Now got to try to find Eleanor (JONES?).

Can anyone shed any light on this or claim any of the people for their own?

Heres hoping.

Hi Sonja
I was going to look back at the censuses, then realised that you give Elizabeth Ellen OWEN's year of birth as 1894, but in the 1901 & 1891 censuses her year of birth is 1886. Is 1894 just a typo? As you do not give the maiden name of Catherine, I am guessing that you do not have a copy of Elizabeth Ellen's birth certificate yet. Do you have a copy of her marriage certificate?

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

1894 was an estimate on my fathers behalf - so 1886 MAY be possible.
I have her marriage cert - in 1913 she gave her ages as being 27 and her Father was definately Rowland Owen.

From www.lancashirebmd.org.uk (http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk) :

Great! :D What were the names & occupations of the fathers? Do they agree with the censuses? Although OWEN/S is common, there aren't many Rowlands about.

Got to cross check it with the census yet. But here are the details

St Davids Church Liverpool (Lancaster Dio)

Rowland Owen - father - Owen Owens (Ship carpenter)
Catherine Williams - father - John Williams - farmer

Both ages given as full (as far as I can tell)

Witnessed by

Robert Jones
Annie Owen (sister maybe?)

Rowland Owens (1847 of Caemas Anglesey)

I think this place is Llanfaethlu, about 6 miles NE from Holyhead on the A5025. About 5 miles further along the same road is Caemas.

The spelling of Llanfaethly seems to vary, ending in y, u or e.

The name of the farm is Tan-y-bryn, Llanfaethlu. You can see it on an old map at www.old-maps.co.uk

Thank you so much for that - I cant believe how helpful people have been on this forum and on the Liverool forum.

I have spent the last hour trawling around Easdale Argyll - the parents of Elizabeths husband John C Campbell come from there!! How bizare - Grandparents living on remote(ish for the era of 1850 - 70's) to have children/grandchildren marry.
