Hi Mick,
My wife`s ancestor was also Martin Letts, married"Charlotte" and had Children:Ann ,Born Norton 1818,Sarah Ann,born Whilton1821,Selina,born Whilton 1826and Charlotte, born Whilton1823? No trace of William though!
Could they be the same? Incidentally, another branch of my wife`s family leads back to the Letts at Yelvertoft in the 1760`s,but so far cannot find a link. Regards Terry

Hi Mick!

I have Letts and Eales from Long Buckby.

I have Ann Eales born there on 31 January 1821, and baptised on 18 November 1821. She was the daughter of William Eales and Rebecca Coleman. Her father had a sister named Hannah who was my 3rd great grandmother.

I don't have a marriage for Ann as yet, but the dates are right for her to be the one you are after!

I do have a Fred Letts who was born about 1838. He married (1) Louisa Capell of Long Buckby and (2) Adelaide Salisbury of Barby, Northants and all their children were born in Long Buckby. Sadly, I don't know who Fred or Louisa's parents were yet!

If this is of interest to you please email me on jane.aires@ntlworld.com

Best wishes

I had a moment to spare, so I thought I would look for the LETTS people in Long Buckby in the 1841 census. There are lots! And these are just the main village, not in the nearby hamlets.

Two families, and then lots of odd ones living with other households.

From the new Archive CD Books CD (http://www.parishchest.com/en-gb/dept_2416.html)of the 1841 Northamptonshire census

Father, Martin LETTS isn't in the main village at the time of the census, but with a bit of searching I'm sure that he will be found somewhere close by, as he was still alive in 1843 at the time of his son's marriage.

I have a Samuel Letts in Long Buckby, who in 1862 was married to Frances Warren.

Given the large number of Letts families in LB there may be no connection with your lot - but these were shoemakers, like about half the population there at tha time.

Hi Liz

I can't tie in your Letts family yet - but I'm pretty sure they are all linked somewhere along the line!

Will update this forum if I can find the link!!!

Best wishes

I was reading Mick Letts' posting yesterday due to the fact my wife has a Great Grandfather Robert Letts. You can imagine my surprise when I got to Ron's scan of the 1841 census and there was a Robert Letts of about the right age. I checked the marriage registration I have for Robert and sure enough one of the witnesses was Susan Letts, showen as the youngest girl in the family, in this 1841 census. What with his Father's name, Mother's name, his age and then Susanna, a preponderance of the evidence suggests this is the right family. THANKS Ron. I will be looking to buy this CD from the Canada store.
