Plantheaven,

I'm on the lookout for GRAY although I think they could be in Croydon. John Stewart GRAY lived in Battersea I know in 1920. His grandson was Capt. Stewart GRAY of the Imperial Camel Corp in 1917. I would like to know more about them and their descendents.

Sorry, no connection here. St George in the East is in London and although both my Williams lines originate in Essex they moved 1) Hampstead, Middx and 2) Brixton, south London after 1850. I will however keep my eyes open for you.

Sorry John, the only John Gray I have was born 1894 father Edmund Willie Gray.
Certainly my Gray family ended up in Battersea and Croydon but cannot see the connection although there is always the possibility there is one. Edmund Willie Gray's father Edmund Paine Gray, lived in Shirley (outskirts of Croydon) before moving to London and marrying Hannah Bransgrove. It is this early period of his life that I cannot trace. He was born in Dorset and moved to London in his early years. I have never managed to find a marriage for Edmund snr and Hannah and wonder if there was an earlier marriage in Croydon.

Many thanks,

My John Gray came from Scotland and was a banker in India during his mid-years retiring to Battersea.

Hi Jacqui
I have a Sarah Ann Simpson, born somewhere between 1820ish and 1830ish (she was not consistent as to her age!). Her Father was John Simpson, a Weaver. Sarah married Alfred Boater February 24, 1845 in Hackney Parish Church. She died August 18, 1893 in Windsor Road, Hackney: just by Hackney Marshes. Does she ring any bells?
Regards
Peter

I have two Sarahs but neither fit. One was born 1812, Westminster to Thomas and Catherine Simpson and the other is their grandchild to son Samuel and she was born c.1847.
Sorry

John Simpson apparently born 1816 birth place on records say at Bethanal Green. He then shows up in the old Baileys 23 Oct 1828 Theft and was sent to Tas Australia for 7 years transported on the ship York1 arrived Tas 1829. He reconvicted in Sydney 1836. Then Married Jane welch/walsh/welsh in 1842. Had 6 children, then around cira 1867 the whole family came to Victoria to live where the children all married and died. His wife Jane died 1892 Vic and her eldest son buried her but it doesnt state if John was desceased. I would like to find John's baptism birth death but am chasing very loose ends. If anyone can help it would be much appeciated.
