Hi, I am looking for information about Lily Clifford born in Coudon, Durham 29/12/1885. Her parents were Thomas Clifford my great grandfather born 1848 and Mary Jackson. I have found quite a bit about her brothers and sisters but for some reason little about Lily. I know she did not die as a child as I believe she had two children and may have married twice. Can anyone help?

Hi,
Firstly I don't think Lily was born in Westmorland, according to both 1891 & 1901 census she was born in Durham. Her parents and most of her elder siblings were born in Westmorland. According to 1891 census she was born Coundon, Durham and is living with her parents in the parish of Westerton/Durham. Thomas is an Ag Lab
ref RG12/4071 Folio 107 Page 27.
By 1901 the family have moved to the parish of Watermillock/Cumberland and Lily is not with them. Thomas has now become a farmer.
Ref RG13/4856 Folio 104 Page 7

Lily is also in Cumberland in the parish of Waitby. The index gives her birth place as 'Ottundon' but I have checked this and it is mistakenly transcribed and actually again says Coundon. She is a domestic servant in the house of Nathan Hastwell. Ref RG13/4903 Fol. 128 Page 4

The most likely marriage is register at Kendal Oct/Dec 1905 Vol 10b page 1255 to either Thomas Leathers or Alexander Stewart.

Cheers Jeremy.
