Hi,My quest today is to find Martha Dickens born 1818 in Riseley. She married John Fowler in 1842 and I have the census data for her from that point. On her marriage her father was named as George. A mason. It is a supposition that her mother was Mary Chamberlain [They married in Riseley in 1816] I am hoping that the 1841 census will confirm their places of birth and his occupation. Thankyou

Hello Enca
I looked on IGI and found this birth for Martha. The father is not George so probably not the right one. On the marriage cert was it Marta or John's father who was George? I found a John Fowler with a father George. I wasn't able to find John & Martha in the '41 census.

A George Dickins age 40 was buried at Riseley on 8 Aug 1834, and a Mary Dickins age 52 on 2 June 1848.

In 1841 in Riseley there's a Mary Dickins 45; Sophia 15; George 15; William 12; Samuel 8. All born in Beds.

The IGI, controlled extract so reliable, has a baptism of Martha Dickins daughter of George and Mary on 27 May 1832. I suspect this is your Martha with a late baptism. Also baptised on the same day was Sophia Dickins dau of George & Mary (who we know from the census was born 1821-26 - in fact as Sophia King in 1851 she was 28, so 1822/3), so they may have had a job lot - unfortunately this particular IGI batch only has female baptisms in Riseley. However the BVRI also has baptisms that day for Elizabeth, George, Philip, and William, all children of George and Mary.

I can't see Martha in 1841 - but in any event 1841 only states whether or not the person was born in the county

For added interest --- Stephen Dickins married Martha Williamson at Riseley on 26/06/1815. Stephen was baptised 23/01/1791 parents Stephen & Sarah Dickens. I cannot find baptism of George circa 1794; to link these 2 Dickens.

Stephen & Martha had son John 1819 married Selina Hancock on 28/07/1839. Their daughter Clara 1847 married James Partridge on15/09/1865. James 1846 was son of Robert Partridge of Riseley, the brother of my gt-gt-grandfather Richard b 1792 Bletsoe.

Thank you for all the information. I appreciate all your help. I have been without a computer for a while. But now I feel that I have "regained my right arm!" I can get back to my search.
