I wonder if anyone could help please. I have found a marrige entry Dec Qtr. 1858 for Hocking - William & Hocking Catherine. But there are two other entries with the same reference 5c489. What I would like to know is did they married each other or one of the other two before I send for the certificates. Thank you.

I would have a look at the 1861 census for Penzance and look for the relevant families. That will decide for you which of the BMD entries married which.
The censuses for Cornwall are all available (with one or two small gaps) from -

I did have a quick look for William, but nothing which stood out. The same sort of search can be done in 1871 also.
In general, the BMD entries often list 4 people - 2 male, 2 female. Which couple are which may need some detective work - such as checking later censuses, looking for each male and who they are married to - as I mentioned before.
Good luck with your search - remember they may have moved from the area - so it is worth checking the general area of Penwith, rather than just Penzance itself.
