Did George Washington Plater stay in the USA long enough to be on any census? My local library has a subscription to Heritage Quest and it is accessible from home with a library card. Here are the US census years available 1790, 1800,1810, 1820, 1860, 1870, 1890, 1900, 1910, 1920 , 1930 (partial) .

Looking at a census page, it looks like the question was "Where born" and there isn't anything about nationality (just age, sex, color, place of birth-naming the State, Territory or Country)

It seems like someone born in the US would be US citizen (in addition to what ever duel nationality they had from their parents) and a state named with no mention of England, etc.

If you think he was here, I would be glad to look. Notice the gap between 1820 and 1860.

Found this on ancestry, no parents, there was one tree, but only a few names.

1 George Washington PLATER b: 1842
+ ELIZABETH HOLLAND
2 Elijah PLATER b: 1870
+ Alice TURNER
3 James Holland PLATER b: 1913 d: 1987
+ Winifred Irene CAMPBELL b: 1912
4 Living CHAFER

Found another married to Miriam DAVIES, if either of these are yours, i'll pull down the gedcoms unless you have access yourself.
