Looking for Edward VALLIS (one of my possible connections) b abt 1823 who married 13-Aug-1853 Mary Hewlett b abt 1830.

In 1861 Census he is living in Swindon area with wife and new family, and censi (?) state he was born in Devizes. by 1901 he's moved to Lambeth.

So hopefully info in 1851 Census will help in tracing his location and possibly also his parents/siblings. As there isn't a great deal of the VALLIS family in either of the Swindon or Devizes area (to my knowledge) I'm wondering where he eminated from.

The only other reference of a possible sibling is a Charles VALLIS b abt 1840 in Potterne - (about 4 mls SE of Devizes) who turns out to be a travelling Pedlar in 1881 census (but in 1901 Census he is stated to be born Newnney, Somerset - so would also be grateful if he could be looked up as well (can one do 2 multi-tasking request in one ?? - don't shoot me please moderator).

Thanks in Advance - HiFly

Thanks Jo

Well he seems to have gone up in the world over the years :) from Solicitors Clark to Accountant!

If you have access to 1841 Census - can he be found there also?

I have had a look but couln't see him.

Do you have a marriage certificate for him that would give his fathers name. If you don't have the certificate there is this

Edward Vallis in 1853, Stroud, 6a 487 .
That would help more.
Jo :)

HiFly,

I have a copy of the CD for Wiltshire parish Marriage registers, and on disk #11, pg 134, (Vol VIII), there is a marriage for William Vallis, widower, sojourner, and Charlotte Derham on 30 Apr 1822 in Devizes, at the Parish of St. John the Baptist. Could be your Edward's parents, since he was born abt 1825 in Devizes...

Thanks for your posting Debbie - didn't spot it until this evening..apologies and thanks.

No they are not the parents of Edward, but I'm told that for the 1851 Census the reference for Edward is HO107/1833 Folio 516 Page 15 in Wood Street, Swindon - and as he got married in 1853 might show who he is boarding or living with....

So still not further on this one...but always optomistic...
