On the 1851 census, there are 2 William MILLERs of that age [+/-69] showing up in Surrey: one born in London and living in Clapham with wife Elizabeth and sons Daniel and HKG [illegible name] and 3 servants; and the other born in Southwark and living in Newington with two sons, a daughter-in-law and 5 granddaughters.

Thanks for the help Trish; It seems all my ancestors have frustratingly common names. It is most likely that William was born in LAmbeth Surrey. His brother was born there. But I guess that doesnt mean anything. I find it hard to distinguish boundries of Surrey Middlesex etc.

I had a similarly frustrating time finding my Miller family in Newington in 1891 (I don't thinks it's the same family, by the way). Eventually found them when I just used the christian name initials, the full names were not recorded:

E Miller Head M 38 (female) Washing employer London
E Miller Daughter S 18 Wash Ironer employed London
M Miller Daughter S 13 London
A Miller Daughter S 6 London

Lots of hits for E Miller, of course, but the age & place of birth helped, reducing it to about 100, looking at other members of the household resolved the problem.

good luck

Colin
