Are the Scottish census reference codes the same as in England and Wales? For example the 1841 British census is HO 107 followed by a piece number and folio number. Also are the dates the census were taken the same?

For a good explanation see above site, but in short you dont get the HO or RG ref like the British census. You do get a GROS ref number ie 003/00 00. The site above will explain how that works.
The best thing about a Scottish census is you can view a header which will give you a full explanation of the enumaration district.
Im getting worried now and double double checking mine ;) !

http://www.talkingscot.com/censuses/census-intro.htm
will give you all the information of when the census was taken

Hope this helps
