Default Newspapers don't have to be local

Often when we are searching for some elusive information we turn to old newspapers, and can make the mistake of confining that search to local newspapers.

A lot of stories and notices were syndicated around the country. To illustrate my point the extract below is from the death notices of the Weekly Mail dated 4 July 1891:

The Weekly Mail was published in South Wales and circulated there and just over the border. Its one of the many free to search, copy, download, newspapers available from the National Library of Wales site.

Not just around the country, but around the world, so it's always worth looking at the free sites, like Trove and Papers Past, before parting with money. Also, notes in UK newspaper announcements like "Australian newspapers please copy" may suggest where some of those vanished rellies went.
