    Default Walter G OGDEN b Q2 1897 Barton Regis

    Hello
It's been a few years since I have been on this forum but you were all so helpful then.
I'm looking for info on Walter G OGDEN b Q2 1897 the 1911 census shows him as a foster child so i'm assuming that by that time both his parents had passed on. Barton Regis seems to be a registration district of Bristol as the Census shows his place of birth as 'Barton Hill' which is not far from where I currently live.
The only other info that I have been able to find is the marriage in Winifred (Winnie) SIMMONS in 1921.

Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.

    Regards,

    Geoff Searle

Geoff, what else did the 1911 say? Did it actually give Barton Regis as the birth parish? Have you found him in the 1901?

    Hi Lesley,
Have not found him in the 1901. Birthplace shown on 1911 as Barton Hill, Bristol.
BMD records the birth district Barton Regis 6a 86
Barton Regis seems to be a registration district that covers Barton Hill, Bedminster, Horfield and other areas of Bristol.
As his birth was in 1897 there is not even a mothers maiden name so have come to a dead stop.

    Hi Pamela,
That must be him with the surname spelled wrongly.
The 1911 census shows him as a foster child with Caroline Bickell as head of household, and the age is correct.
I should have thought of looking for Caroline.

Any advice on how I can identify Walter's parents?

Yes that is a possibility. Following on from from what Lesley said the 1901 census has the parish as Holy Trinity Westbury with Redland. Will have a look for baptism records.

    Hi everyone,
Walter Ogden is still giving me some problems. I have his birth certificate and can confirm that his father was James OGDEN and his mother was Emily RANDALL. Ancestry shows a marriage between James and Emily at St. Clements Bristol (Mariage details FHL Film Number: 1596488 Reference ID: p.172 cn.343)

I have a death date for James OGDEN of 27th Jun 1918 from WW1 deaths. I cannot find anywhere a death for
    Emily OGDEN (Randall).
The other thing that I'm a bit confused about is what appears to be a second marriage of James to Susannah BLACKER ?
This might be correct because Walter is shown in later census as living as a foster child / adopted child with Caroline Bickell.

Any help to sort this out would be much appreciated - thanks in advance.
