Hi, I am researching my family tree. A relative sent me a fascinating story of our relative who retired from the navy around 1860. It stated two things I cannot verify at all hence hoping for some pointers. The first was that he was granted some kind of fishing/ oyster dredging rights from the crown for serving in action which he took up on retirement in his home town of Faversham later selling on when he emigrated? Secondly that he decided to retire after family pressure as he had been ship wrecked off Murmansk for some time! Again no matter how much I research these two statements I cannot find anything to support it. Anyone please any ideas as to how to proceed. Thanks.

Most surviving records will be at the National Archives. Some may be online, perhaps via a partner web site.
If I were you I would read the appropriate research guides and follow the recommended approach.
