Don't forget there is a tunnel running under the Thames between Bermondsey/Rotherhithe and Limehouse on the North Bank which is next to Shoreditch.

All things are relative, but I would find the three mile walk from the northern end of the rotherhithe tunnel to St. Leonard's church a little more than being "next to". :-;
