What is interesting (but maybe not related) is that a Mary PUDDY married a William HARDWICKE 16th June 1814 at
South Brent, Somerset, England, according to Family Search.

It maybe possible that Mary Jane is related somehow to this couple, maybe a grandaughter, and the name PUDDY was an alias.

I found them, maybe I need to follow them up and work forward and see if I can find out who their children were. I thought also, that maybe she was born out of wedlock taking her mothers surname and then her parents married, thus, she then adopted her fathers name. I also cannot find her eldest son John William Brooks born in 1875, I've tried J.W Hardwick(e) and Puddy.
