I am looking for information about my grandfather's, George Arthur Lubbock, military career. I know he was a signaller in WW1 and was stationed in Salonika in March 1917 then Gallipoli in Jan 1918. Can anyone tell me his regiment please.

HI
Are you sure on your details? There was no one on Gallipoli after December 1915, when they all evacuated.
These are all the Medal Index Cards - https://discovery.nationalarchives.go...=34&image1.y=7
They are also on Ancestry and the medals rolls as well, no on that looks like a signaller?
Ancestry also has a lot of MID's for a G Lubbock, an officer in the Royal Engineers - they are in with this lot on NA - https://discovery.nationalarchives.go...v=&name=Search
Cant see a service record for him, may have served later than WW1.

I found this record on ancestry which is licensed to hold them. There may be a free version of it at your local library.
I can't see a personal record for this man as yet under his full name. More than 60% of WW1 records were destroyed by bombing/fire in WW11 so you have to be very lucky to find one for your man.
These details don't match what you have.Sometimes paranoia is just having all the facts.

Yes, but are you sure it is him? There are a couple of other George Lubbock's as I showed in my post, any could be him. Not all servicemen stated their full name when joining.
But it could be him as 1st Suffolk were at Salonika - https://www.1914-1918.net/suffolks.htm
He was entitled to a pair, so entered a theatre of war after 1915.
We need more details, a service number would be great.
Do you have his medals?
regards
Robert

Hello Robert
No not sure it is him, just giving what I found for the full name. George Arthur birth registered Wellingbro' 1892. George Albert registered Erpingham 1899. Those are the only two George Lubbock births with a middle initial A 1843 to 1916. Of course plenty of other George's with and without other middle initials/names.
If we knew where George Arthur was born it may help.

Thankyou for the information. My grandfather was born on Jan 12th 1892. He certainly lived in Wellingborough but I think he may have been born in Bozeat Northamptonshire. His brother John Raymond was certainly in the Suffolk Regiment -service number 24210. He was killed in March 1918 probably at Arras. His body was never found but his name is on the Arras Memorial. I went to see it this year - very emotional experience. My grandfather's wartime experience was never discussed so all I know about it is from an old newspaper cutting and a couple of photographs. I certainly never knew he'd been in the same regiment as his brother. Thank you again for your help.
