    Thumbs up Boxer Uprising

Trying to discover how my grandad (Herbert Harrington, Royal Marines Light Infantry Chatham Division) received a medal for the Boxer Uprising. His service record is very basic so if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to British-Genealogy

This is the service record you have?

I can't find any other record for this man so no help at all. I did take a look in the London Gazette to see if the award was published there as this is the official notification for awards but I couldn't turn up anything but even if it had been there they don't say why the medals were awarded.

The National Archives has journals, letters and correspondence on the Boxer Uprising Here but not specific to your search

Someone else may have some ideas.

The medal roll is on Ancestry as "UK, Naval Medal and Award Rolls, 1793-1972". This includes rolls from WO100 and ADM171. The medal in question appears to be the China War Medal 1900.

Was he on HMS Barfleur? If so, you could look for the ship in Wikipedia. You may also like to read the National Archives "Operations" research guides
