Default 25th Machine Gun Corp Thomas Constable

I have my Great Grandfathers WW1 service extract showing him in the 25th Machine Gun Corp he served for 4 years 4 months being discharged in Feb 26th 1919.
I am confused by the numbering 25th MGC as it states on his medal card that he was a Pte No 6899 in the Machine Gun Corp and also in the Northampton regiment No 22205. His medal Victory and British shows he was in the MGC /101 B4 (page 332)
I cannot find any reference to the 25th MGC existing I assume he may have started in the Northants Regiment and been moved over to the MGC.
Can anyone offer any help as MGC records appear sparse

    HI

You are right, look at the medal rolls too - this MGC /101 B4 (page 332) is the reference to that roll and page, not the regiment he was with.
Only diaries I can find for 25 MGC are the first 2 items listed here -
    https://discovery.nationalarchives.go...d=1920&_ro=any
His roll show he was only entitled to a pair, so he only entered a theatre of war after 1915.

    Default 25th Machine Gun Company

Well, there is quite a bit of info out there...first, take a look at this page from the Vickers Machine Gun website: https://www.vickersmachinegun.org.uk/...c-i-coy-25.htm. You will see that the 25th MGC was attached to the 25th [Infantry] Brigade 8th Division and fought in France and Flanders - likely battles are listed. This website is full of useful info, so you really do need to click around.

Researching the MGC is so difficult because much info 'disappeared' in a fire in 1920; plus, the service records of many men were lost in the Blitz in 1940. There is a site dedicated to researching the MGC and it actively seeks help from the relatives and descendants of men who served: https://www.machine-gun-corps-databas...ntro_page.html. So perhaps you would be able to provide some info about Thomas Constable, e.g. photograph.

Finally, there is a Machine Gun Corps Association: https://www.machineguncorps.co.uk/index.html.

All the pages I've been looking at (very quickly, I'm afraid) emphasise the need to look at TNA, as stated in the posts above. All the research will be quite a long hard task, but I think worth it in the end - bear in mind that about 100,000 men were serving in the MGC at the height of WW1, so anything you can find might help others too.
