My g grandfather was in the 59th regiment between 1863-1870. He was stationed in Athlone, Westmeath Ireland where he met my g grandmother and my grandmother was born. I was able to find his record, but it only had basic information. I was hoping it would have told me where he lived before he joined or even maybe his parents names. Does anyone know if this information existed in the military records?

Welcome to the British-Genealogy forums Bonnie
I can't answer your question about what the records contain re parent's etc but if you give us your g grandfather's name, date of birth, marriage date etc we can take a look and see if there is anything to be found for him.
Oh and the title says 58th regiment then in your post you say 59th?

If you care to provide his identity details, you may get a helpful reply.

Hi
Older military records tended to be pretty basic unfortunately, so I don't think you will find any more information from them.
Answering the above questions may help.

My error, it's 59th foot. His name was Alexander Patton. According to the records he was discharged in 1877. He was married in 1867 in Galway, Ireland to Bridget Connolly. His son, also Alexander, was born in India, so I assume he was stationed there at some time. Thanks for any assistance.

Can't help on personal details but can show deployment of his Regiment.
The Regiment was in England 1861 - 1865, Ireland 1865 -1867, Ceylon 1867 -1869 and India 1869 -1878.

I assume that what you found was the WO121 register page on Findmypast. 3768 Alexander Patton.
If you look a bit further in Findmypast you'll find the WO97 soldiers papers. Born Clough, Antrim, enlisted Belfast, formerly a weaver, previously in the Militia (79th Queens Royal Antrim Rifles). Look for the man born in Clough.
