Default Private 1700795 264th Air Artillery

    Hi

I am very new to this. How can I find my grandfathers service records. I have put his name in the search engine along with his service number and nothing comes up.

I know he was in North Africa and Italy but I don't know where to look for more detailed information

    Can anyone help please?

    Regards

    Ian

It's explained in the sticky at the top of this section entitled "Finding service records for WW2 and after"

    HI

His service number indicates he joined up with the Royal Artillery.
Do you mean 264 Anti Aircraft regiment or battery?

    regards

    Robert

I believe it was 264 Anti Aircraft Battery.
The advice is still the same - you have to apply to the Ministry of Defence.

If you fancy popping along to the National Archives you could look at the Battery's War Diaries

    https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

    Try searching for 264 anti-aircraft

    Hi

That brings up this - https://discovery.nationalarchives.go...v=&name=Search
SO that raises the question - LAA or HAA (Light or Heavy)
His service records will give the answer, then you can look at the above diaries to see where he went.

    regards

    Robert

LAA or HAA (Light or Heavy)
HAA according to the Royal Artillery attestations available of Findmypast.
