Default William Robert Davies 1677 Driver RA

I am having a lot of difficulty in finding any information on the above, he was my Grandfather and survived the Great War.

I am in possession of 2 medals, one the standard medal with his details inscribed on the side, and another which is star shaped with a crown at the top and 2 crossed sword with 1914-15 inscribed on them, also the back has his name, rank, serial number and the letters RFA , my mum thinks something to do with the French?

Does anyone have any pointers to help please? My 86 years young mother has asked me to find out anything I can about her father

    Many thanks

he received the Star because he entered a theatre of war before 1916...I have looked at his medal card,,,,he was awarded the Star,,,the victory medal and British medal. He entered a theatre of war France on the 25th November 1915.

Hi and thanks Gortonboy, that explains the medals adequately. Not sure if you can help me with this question? How do I find out which battles or fields he fought on? My mum thinks he was on the Somme. I have never done any of this ancestry research before so am never sure where to start...
