I'm new to all this so apologies in advance. My great uncle died during action on 13/11/1916 and the information on this site states that his medals were 'not issued/unclaimed'. I need to find his Medal Card which states this but every where I search seems to come up with a dead end, including the National Archives. Any advice would be much appreciated.

HI
Unfortunately if they were not claimed then, you cant claim them now anyway, MOD stopped that in the 1980's apparently.

His name was Robert Shelton. He was born on 16/10/1889 in Loscoe, Derbyshire. He enlisted with the Royal Marines Light Infantry (Chatham) in September 1914 and his service number was CH/91/S. He was listed as 'Missing' on 13/11/1916 when he took part in the Battle of Ancre. The Medals Office have said they'd look into it if I can provide them with a copy of Roberts Medal Card showing the medals were 'not issued/unclaimed'. I hope someone can help.

Hi
Here are his service records - https://discovery.nationalarchives.go...ils/r/D7815816
I am not sure if RMLI records also detail medal entitlement and whether supplied, you will just have to buy it and see.
Looking at the examples here - https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/r...er-service.htm they may do so, so let us know what you find.
Just for your information - here he is on CWGC - https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/ca...LTON,%20ROBERT

Thank you Robert. I'll look at the links and will let you know how I get on. It means a lot to me, as far as I know I'm the last surviving member of the family and I feel a great responsibility to Robert to clarify the situation.

The findmypast records are the one page service record and a single line for his medals.
There may be much more information in his 'Attestation Pack' which is held at the Fleet Air Arm Museum ( yes .. why is a long story).
The pack for our man included some 20 documents.
Contact them by email - [email protected] - and ask what they have ... fee if they have his record is £20 but we found it well worth it ... and service is fast .. within a week...
more information on FAAM on their website https://www.fleetairarm.com/naval-aviation-research.aspx do NOT be put off they do have RMLI information for WW1 Marines. You can also phone the number on their website and ask them ... we found the staff very helpful

Thank you for the information Robin. I found very little on the National Archives website and nothing at all on 'findmypast', but I contacted the fleet air arm museum, as you suggested, this afternoon and received a reply just a couple of hours later. It seems they have an 'Attestation Pack' along with other documents, relating to Robert and they will be sending copies in due course. I am delighted to have finally found the information I've been looking for and can't thank you, and other people who have offered suggestions, enough. Thank you.
