It was easier for me when I was looking for info on my grandfather's father. My mother was very forthcoming on any info she knew along with his name. I did look him up but haven't found too much on him as of yet.

Depending on the time your grandfather & his siblings were born, there could be bastardy examinations, allegations and bonds in the poor law records, and petty sessions. There may even be records in the newspaper of the area which covered petty sessions, especially if the alleged father refused to pay, or didn't agree that he was the father.
If the mother couldn't support her children and became a burdon on the parish, then there may be settlement disputes which may end up in the higher courts, and these indictments would be in the County record office. Unfortunately it is a bit hit and miss with regards to bastardy records, and many are not indexed individually, but grouped in batches by year, and those that do remain will be in the County record office.

This was after they moved to Canada from England. If he did have more children they were not with my great grandmother. He was older too when he fathered my grandfather (approx 49). She did have some children from her husband that died just after my grandfather was born in 1888 of TB. She kind of named him after his father with his middle name but changed the spelling a bit. And kept her husband's name as his surname.

My grandfather David Leflar Robinson-1888-1967-son of James Leffler-approx 1842-no death date known-his father born in USA and his mother born in Ireland-no parents names listed
On one census I found him living in the same town as Alice Robinson of Port Dover Ontario and another census of the same year 1891 living with Alice Robinson-nee Butler-1850-1923
Francis Robinson-Alice husband 1850-1888-died of TB
1901 census shows no James-no idea where he moved onto.
If he had more children it would not have been with Alice.

It's a filiation or affiliation order that you need. It's important that you tell us the date because that governs the availability of other possible sources.

Hi SandraL
I am a little confused as to what you have or need to know about Francis, Alice Butler and David and other children. Or do you actually need anything at all? I am a little slow on the uptake today but thought your posts needed a thread of their own as they did not seem directly related to affiliation orders in the UK.

I was wondering what happened to James Leffler after he moved on. Where did he go after leaving Alice? Where is he buried, etc? i can't seem to find anything after he left Alice.
David was the illegitimate son of James. And yes this was after they came to Canada. Which was in 1871 when they left England.
