Does any one out there have any experience of tracing nurses in WW1. I'm trying to see if there were any local girls invoved in nursing during the Great War.
The only thing that comes to mind is putting in nurse in the Keyword for the 1911 census. I get lots of monthly nurses and nurse domestic but very few just plain nurse.

Have you tried the web site of the British Red Cross https://www.redcross.org.uk/About-us/...during-the-war
They are slowly building up a database of people who helped them.

This website about Voluntary Aid Detachments may be of interest. Although it's primarily about Kent, the principles would be the same for your locality.

Leicestershire nurses in WW1
There is an archive at the library of the University of Leicester, which - I gather - was made available for public view on 11 November 2010. See this webpage: https://www2.le.ac.uk/news/blog/2010-...emembrance-day. Doesn't help much now-this-minute, but it might be worth contacting the Univ about your research?
Otherwise, take a look at the Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service page here: https://www.qaranc.co.uk/qaimns.php. From that, I note that about 200 nurses were killed on active service.
Finally, footwork with camera, pen and pad to hand: take a look at the names on war memorials and if you find a woman's name, note it down and then do some research.
Swooping off.

There is also the Royal College of Nursing Archive. I didn't find much on general searches, but it might work with specific names, as there are biographies.
In addition to local newspapers, seek out magazines of local organisations like Churches and clubs for reports of members, and schools for old girls. In our local education committee minutes I found a note of the school nurse going off to Serbia.
Letters to the Editors of local newspapers might evoke some responses along the lines of "My grandmother looked after wounded soldiers". Local online forums likewise.
