I am looking for information on Edward WHITE who was a gunner in the Royal Horse Artillery in the 1881 census, at the Artillery Barracks in Aldershot Military Camp.
He was born about 1858 in Rugby, Warwickshire although we cannot find his birth or death certificates. In fact we can't find anything about him at all!
He was married in 1873 to Harriet GURNEY and had two children, Joseph Alfred b. 1877 and Susan b.1878.
Unfortunately his wife died in 1878 soon after Susan was born and she was adopted (according to a cousin) and Joseph went to live with his paternal grandparents.
Would love to hear from anyone who can help try and find his military career, perhaps he was sent to India?
Thanks so much.

Hi
I am a little confused
If your Edward White was the one who married Harriet Gurney in Yorkshire 1873 then he was only 15 years old. His age on the 1881 census is 23 and it has him as unmarried. RG11 piece 785 folio 45 page 6
Do you have Harriet and the children in 1881? No. you wouldn't if she was the one whose death was registered in the Rugby registration district Dec 1/4 1878 age 23.

HI Chistanel
I am also a tad confused. This is a distant cousin's family and she is desperate to find out about her great grandfather Edward White. You are right about his age, I'm beginning to wonder if this is the right man after all!
On his marriage certificate they are both aged 19 in 1873 and after Harriet died, the son went to live with grandparents and the daughter was apparently adopted out!
It is just weird that we can't find him anywhere.

Hi
It may be best if you tell us how your cousin got back to Edward White? She followed her father, grandfather, great grandfather etc? She has marriage and birth certificates for them through the generations?
You say she has a marriage cert for Edward and Harriet Gurney so is there a father named on it for Edward and his occupation. Who are the witnesses? What is Edward's occupation on the cert? Any small piece of information may help
