I am trying to help another researcher who had mistakenly assigned her ancestor Harriet Ann Elliman (maiden name unknown) born circa 1820, to my ancestors sister Ann RUFUS who was born and baptised 1828 at Dartford Kent who married James OWEN 1856 Bermondsey
Her Harriet Ann Elliman married James W. OWEN who was born 13th November 1815, Birmingham, Warwickshire, and they had children: William age 8, James age 5, George age 3 and Mary Ann infant when they sailed to New York in 1849.
I believe I found her family at Upper Hospital Street, Birmingham in 1841 (Ref: HO107 piece 1141 ED 8 folio 26 page 10).
However much I search, I can not find a suitable marriage of a Harriet Ann Elliman (nee ?) to James W. OWEN.
I have identified a couple of baptisms with Elliman as a middle name at Mancetter just outside Atherston...children of John & Ann REEVES, and a probable marriage of their parents Ann ELLIMAN & John REEVES at Stoneleigh, Warwick in 1819. However I can not find Harriet Ann Elliman's baptism.
Any help greatly appreciated

I am not having much luck either, Michelle. Wouldn't the easiest way of finding her maiden name be to purchase the birth certificate of one of her children? There is a James OWEN registered in the March qtr 1844 at Birmingham reg district and he does appear to be the only James OWEN registered in Birmingham in 1844 so is likely to be the correct James.

I have found a tree on Ancestry where the owner has given her name as Harriet Ann Elliman Rufus, but Born 1820 Dartford, Kent. They have other children in their home in Onarga, Illinois

Yes, that is the tree where Harriet Ann Elliman has been given the wrong surname and attached to Ann RUFUS mistakenly...chances are, my Ann RUFUS was the "closest fit" as she was married to a James OWEN. However my Dartford Ann married her husband in 1854....5 years after the tree owner's James & Harriet Ann Elliman OWEN plus their children had emigrated!
The only problem is that we can not be certain that the Birmingham family is indeed the correct one, though I think it is highly likeley. I could suggest to her that she gets the birth certificate of James OWEN b. 1844 to see if it does give Harriet Ann Elliman's full name and proove for certain that the Birmingham family is hers.

Thanks for your suggestion Janet..I hadn't thought of that last night, and I have passed on your suggestion. Hopefully she will purchase a certificate and correct the tree, if it does indeed show Harriet Ann Elliman to have Reeves as the maiden name as I expect.

Michelle,
Ancestry's Warwickshire Baptisms have the baptism of a Harriet REEVES at Mancetter on 12 June 1825, daughter of John & Ann REEVES of Hartshill, Labourer. Unfortunately no Ann or Elliman shown on the parish register entry. However, there is a William Elleman REEVES born to the same couple and baptised at Mancetter on 21 May 1820, John shown as a Labourer of Hartshill - so you could certainly be on the right track!

thanks for that one Janet...maybe it was on Familysearch as well and I overlooked it, but I'm starting to feel that I have located the right family. But she does really need the birth certificate of a child to confirm this. However much I love to help others, I do draw the line at paying nearly £10 for a certificate just to correct someone elses tree
